Addressing a wide range of skills is how every teacher should approach every lesson. Students all come with their own strengths and weaknesses along with preconceived notions that will affect their learning. I use project based formative learning and standards-based summative assessment to best address the range of skills and give the most useful feedback to students and their parents. I encourage students to turn in work as soon as they complete it so that they can be given immediate feedback so they can fix their mistakes. I have a generous remediation policy so students are not discouraged by failure; instead, they are encouraged to constantly improve their skills. Students should be given realistic expectations for workload and as the teacher, I will work with them to find what will motivate learning by surveying their interests and preferred methods of assessment. I will maintain a wide range of skills that students must use throughout the term while still allowing them to use their natural skills most often.
